The coach

A weekly brief per workspace and per channel that reads everything that happened and proposes actions you can start with one click, each priced first.

Once a week the coach reads your whole workspace — credits, queue, held episodes, connections, every channel's backlog, schedule and settings, and what Insights, retention, breakouts, the monetization tracker, the outlier radar and comment themes found — and writes a short brief: a summary, then a handful of recommendations. Every recommendation is one concrete action, with its price shown, that you start with one click. It is there so nothing important slips past you in a busy week.

What it does#

The brief#

Each week there is a brief for This workspace and one for each channel (in a large workspace, its 40 oldest channels). Each has a short summary of what happened, then its recommendations, each with the reason in one or two sentences ("Three held episodes this week, all for pace — review them before the slots run dry").

How a brief is made keeps it honest:

  1. Code gathers the facts — your numbers, never guesses — and builds the possible recommendations, each one an action from a fixed list of sixteen (below), priced the way the job would be priced if you started it now.
  2. The coach writes the words, choosing among those candidates.
  3. Code checks every number in the words against the facts, and refuses promises.

If the coach's model budget for the week is spent, code writes the brief in plain words from the same facts. The card says which: Written by the coach from your numbers, checked by code, or Written from the numbers by code. When nothing needs doing, the brief says so: "Nothing to change this week — the numbers look as they should."

An example of a channel's week, as it might read:

Steel and Stone Written by the coach from your numbers, checked by code
Two posts beat the channel's usual on Instagram this week, and the backlog is down to four topics.

Four topics are left and the schedule uses one a day. [ Plan topics ] [ Not now ]
Typically 12 credits — Most topic plans in this workspace cost 10–14 credits; 16 is reserved
  and the rest returned.

A watched channel's video on swaying bridges is far above its usual. [ Make a fresh-angle brief ]
  …

A carousel a day would give the channel one more post a day. [ Turn on daily carousels ]
Free — a setting of the channel.

The Facebook Page's sign-in was refused on Tuesday. [ Reconnect an account ↗ ]

The numbers in that example are only an illustration; the price line under each action is read live from what jobs like it cost.

An action appears only when its feature is on for your workspace, and a job is refused if your plan does not include it. An action that opens a page never changes anything by itself: you finish it there.

One click, checked again#

When you press an action's button, it is checked again against today's state — the channel, the feature, your plan, your role — and then done exactly as the channel page, the episode page or the radar would do it. A job goes through the same checks as any job you start: its price is reserved first, the plan's queue limit and your spending caps apply, and a refusal is said in plain words ("Build the channel's kit first — episodes are rendered with it."). The result is written on the recommendation.

Not now dismisses a recommendation: the coach does not make it again for eight weeks.

Letting the coach act by itself#

An admin can let the coach run four kinds of action by itself each week, through the same checks: Make episodes, Plan topics, Make a fresh-angle brief and Plan topics from your comments — only what adds work to the queue, each job reserved and charged like any job, within your spending caps. Nothing that changes what a channel posts or how is ever done by itself. A delegated recommendation is badged The coach does this itself.

How to use it#

  1. Open Coach in the sidebar. The first brief arrives within the hour of the coach being on for your workspace, then one every week, on Monday.
  2. Read This workspace, then each channel's brief (choose a channel at the top to see one).
  3. Press an action's button to do it, or Not now to set it aside.

Editors, admins and owners can run and dismiss recommendations (an action needs the role its own page needs; Review a held episode is open to everyone). Viewers read the briefs.

Settings#

Under How the coach works for you, and the weekly price card at the top of the page. Admins and owners change them.

Each new brief also sends a notification, and the webhook event coach.ready for your automations (webhooks are on Pro and above).

Credits and plans#

The brief is one charge a week, never credits per question: it is charged what writing it used, at your plan's markup, like any job. The most it can cost is reserved before it runs and it is never charged more; the card at the top of the Coach page shows the typical and the most ("About N credits a week, at most M"). A week your balance — or a spending cap — cannot cover is skipped, with a note on the page, never put on credit. Each recommendation shows the price of what it starts.

The coach is on the Creator plan and above. On the Trial the page explains it and links to the plans.

Limits and good to know#

  • Your workspace only. The coach reads your own numbers; nothing of another workspace's enters a brief.
  • YouTube's numbers appear as YouTube's own (for example a channel's monetization progress); the coach builds no figures of its own on them while YouTube's approval of our derived-metrics amendment is pending.
  • Briefs are kept 35 days: their own week and the four after it.
  • A stale brief says "This brief is from an earlier week; the next one is written within the week." and its buttons are gone.
