Posting episodes as native video posts on a LinkedIn member profile, what each post carries, why a LinkedIn connection must be renewed every 60 days, and what to do when it lapses.
ChannelForge posts each episode to LinkedIn as a native video post on the profile of the member who connected it, on the channel's slots. LinkedIn is in every paid plan.
Before you connect#
- Decide whose profile the channel posts as: the posts appear as that person's own, and the profile is the one signed in on LinkedIn's screen when you connect.
- Connecting needs the editor role or above. Disconnecting needs an admin or owner.
Connect#
- Open Settings → Connections and press Connect on the LinkedIn card.
- LinkedIn asks you to sign in.
- It asks to read your name and photo and to post on your behalf. Allow.
- Back on Connections, the account shows with its name and when the connection expires. Link it to a channel under Which account each channel posts as, and tick LinkedIn under the channel's Post to — a new channel posts to YouTube, Facebook and Instagram until you do.
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
openid, profile | To know which member connected: the name and photo |
w_member_social | To post as that member |
What is posted#
| Part | What LinkedIn receives |
|---|---|
| Video | The whole episode, uploaded to LinkedIn and processed there (LinkedIn takes MP4 files from 75 KB to 500 MB) |
| Post text | The title, the hook line and the channel's call to action, then its hashtags — at most 3,000 characters |
| Video title | The episode's title, up to 200 characters |
The video is uploaded first and the post is made only once LinkedIn has processed it, so a failure before then posts nothing and is safe to try again.
When it posts#
On the channel's slots with the channel's other platforms, or with Post now on the episode page. There is no separate LinkedIn schedule: when LinkedIn's audience matters most to a channel, choose that channel's times with it in mind.
Never twice#
The connection may post but not read LinkedIn, so a lost answer cannot be checked from here. When LinkedIn took the post and its answer was lost, the post is marked may be live and is never retried by itself: look at the profile, and if the post is not there, press Confirm it is not live, retry.
Reconnecting every 60 days#
A LinkedIn connection lasts 60 days, and LinkedIn offers no way to renew a member's connection without them. The Connections page shows when it expires.
- Before the date, open Settings → Connections and press Add on the LinkedIn card.
- Sign in as the same member and allow again.
- The same account is updated with a fresh 60 days, and its channel links stay.
After the date, each LinkedIn post fails with "the LinkedIn connection expired on … — LinkedIn tokens last 60 days", and each failure uses one of the episode's tries there, until you reconnect.
To remove ChannelForge's access at LinkedIn, use LinkedIn's Settings → Data privacy → Permitted services.
Good to know#
- LinkedIn posts are counted, but their numbers are not read: the connection can post but not read.
- LinkedIn can post a channel's photo carousels, as the same member.
- In agency mode, a client's connect link reminds them that LinkedIn connections last 60 days.
Troubleshooting#
"LinkedIn refused the account … Reconnect it under Connections." The connection expired or was revoked. Reconnect as above.
The post went out on the wrong profile. The channel posts as whoever connected the LinkedIn account linked to it. Connect the right member, then pick that account for the channel under Which account each channel posts as.
"LinkedIn did not answer when the post was created (…); it may be live". Look at the profile before you press Confirm it is not live, retry.
