Pinterest

Publishing episodes as video Pins to a board you choose, one Pin at a time on the episode's Pinterest screen, and what Pinterest needs before it opens to every workspace.

ChannelForge publishes episodes to Pinterest as video Pins, each made by a person on the episode's Pinterest screen — its board, its words, its link and when it goes. Pinterest's rules for apps want every Pin chosen by a person, so Pinterest is never posted on a channel's slots. It is in every paid plan.

Before you connect#

  • Use a Pinterest business account — a free one is fine. Pinterest may refuse an app access to a personal account's boards and Pins; switch to a business account in Pinterest's settings, then connect.
  • Connecting, choosing a board and making Pins need the editor role or above. Disconnecting needs an admin or owner.

Connect#

  1. Open Settings → Connections and press Connect on the Pinterest card.
  2. Sign in to Pinterest and allow what it asks.
  3. Back on Connections, the account shows with its name and @username. Link it to a channel under Which account each channel posts as.
PermissionWhy
boards:readTo list your boards, so you can choose one
pins:readTo find a Pin whose answer was lost
pins:writeTo create the Pins you make
user_accounts:readTo know which account connected

Nothing is asked for ads or catalogues. A connection without the board and Pin permissions is refused ("connect again and allow it").

Choose the channel's board#

  1. Open Channels, then the channel, and find Pinterest.
  2. The account's boards are read from Pinterest each time the card opens. Pick one under Board and press Save board.

Of your boards, only the chosen one is kept: the list is read again each time, as Pinterest asks. If that board is deleted or you lose access to it, the card says so: choose another.

Make a Pin#

  1. Open the episode. On its Publishing card, the Pinterest row has Pin….
  2. The Pin to Pinterest screen loads your boards from Pinterest and fills in a suggestion. Check it:
FieldLimitStarts with
Board—The channel's board
Title100 characters; the first 40 show in feedsThe episode's title
Description800 charactersA short version of the episode's description and up to three hashtags — Pinterest reads it to decide who sees the Pin
Link (optional)2,048 characters, a web addressThe channel's link-in-bio page when it is live, else the episode's YouTube post
Alt text500 charactersWhat the video shows, for people who use a screen reader
When—Now — within two minutes, or A few minutes after the channel's next posting time
  1. Press Pin it. The row shows the Pin as queued or scheduled until it goes out.

The video goes to Pinterest as it is, with the episode's own thumbnail as its cover. Pinterest takes a few minutes to process a video. A Pin is sent exactly as you made it, within an hour of its moment or not at all. Once that hour has passed, a Pin that failed is made again on its screen with Pin again….

Never twice#

Before a Pin is created, its video's Pinterest reference is kept. When an answer is lost, the board is looked at: the Pin is there, it is recorded; it is not there 15 minutes later, nothing is live and you make the Pin again on its screen; Pinterest cannot tell yet, nothing is sent and no try is used. Look for it on the episode page asks again.

Reconnecting#

The connection renews itself when it is used — reading boards or making Pins — in its last two days of 30, and lasts as long as it is used within 60 days of its last renewal. When Pinterest refuses it, the account is marked for reconnecting: press Add on the Pinterest card and allow again. The same account is updated.

Good to know#

  • Pins are counted, but their numbers are not read: the Analytics page shows "no metrics yet" for them.
  • Pinterest never holds back an episode's published state.

Troubleshooting#

Pinterest refuses the account's boards. The account is personal: switch it to a free business account and connect again. A Pin refused this way waits about 6 hours before it is tried again.

"That board is not one this Pinterest account may pin to — pick another." The board was deleted, made secret or shared away. Choose another board.

"make the Pin on the episode's Pinterest screen". A Pin is made only on the episode's Pinterest screen: Post now cannot make one. Open the episode's Pinterest screen.
